It is obvious that Meiji and Kanebo feel uneasy as well.
Gendai.net (Japanese) tried to get a comment from those two companies, but according to Infoseek, they won't give a clear answer. They say that they will either have to discuss it further or get the opinions of others, before making any final decisions.
It is understandable that it is an awkward situation for the PR people of both products. Erika didn't commit a crime, but the image is the most important thing for a product. A bad image or a bad promotional-character can easily influence the sales of a product and ruin a whole commercial campaign.
The magazine/site thinks that the success of "Closed Note" will pretty much decide about life or death (don't take it literally). It may sound weird, but right now Erika needs to proof her skill as an actress again, and that she still can 'sell' a product (or movie).
