Erika the 2nd artist in history to have her first two singles on #1
Erika Sawajiri's new single, "FREE," reached #1 with only more than 50,000 sold copies on the singles chart against little competition.
This was her first release under her new artist name ERIKA, but last year she already had another #1 release. She sang "Taiyou no Uta" under the name of "Kaoru Amane" in the dorama of the same name.
This means that Erika reached the first rank for her first two singles. In the whole history of Oricon (39 years and 7 months), only another artist was able to do the same (not counting artists who made solo debuts after being part of a group). The only other woman to do this was Hiroko Yakushimaru (Mother in 1Liter no namida dorama). In 1983 she released her second single "Tantei Monogatari" after taking a break for University. Two years earlier, 1981, she already had a debut with "Sailor fuku to Kikanjyu". Both singles ranked #1 in the first week.
