(Music/Play) Matsuura stars in first play
Aya Matsuura will appear in her first play, co-starring with actor Toshio Kakei. Titled "Sukedachi," the play is an absurd action/adventure tale in which a troubled idol (Matsuura) and a weary actor (Kakei) are asked to help an alien fight against a villain from outer space. Ami Tokito, Galsone, Yukiya Kitamura, and Daisuke Miyagawa are included in the cast. The production will run from August 5 to August 14 at the Shinjuku Koma Stadium. ...(Sponichi)
(Music) Aikawa Nanase Pregnant Again
Singer Aikawa Nanase (32) is pregnant again. She revealed yesterday on her official website that she is currently 6 months pregnant with her second child. She is currently in recording and says she will go ahead with her annual July 7 concert. With her name including the kanji for the number seven (nana), she chose that date for a show to commemorate her 10th year in showbiz in 2005. The band put together for that event included former X Japan guitarist Pata, former Luna Sea drummer Shinya, and former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman. (Movies) Koide, Miura join Aragaki in 'Koizora'
It was announced last month that the popular digital novel "Koizora" is being turned into a movie, starring Yui Aragaki as the protagonist Mika. Two more main cast members have been revealed, playing Mika's contrasting love interests. Haruma Miura will take on the role of her boyfriend Hiroki, while Keisuke Koide will appear as Yuu, a young man who watches over her. Filming began on April 23 and is expected to last until mid-June. (Movies) Matsumoto's 'Dainipponjin' goes to Cannes
On Tuesday, distributor Phantom Film announced that Hitoshi Matsumoto's directorial debut, "Dainipponjin," has been invited to the Director's Fortnight at this year's Cannes Film Festival (May 16-27). The date of the screening has not yet been set. The movie is still shrouded in secrecy. Matsumoto revealed the main cast at the end of March, but no other details have been announced. Tenor Masafumi Akikawa's hit single "Sen no Kaze ni Natte" will be used as the basis for a Fuji TV "documentary drama." The drama will be broadcast during golden time on four nights in August (Friday and Saturday for two consecutive weeks). The song, which has sold 920,000 copies so far, is a remake of an earlier song by Man Arai, which itself was a translation of the American poem "Do not stand at my grave and weep."
The four drama episodes will be based on true stories of people finding inspiration and comfort from the song, helping them cope with sadness. One of the stories will be chosen from public submissions. Arai will serve as a judge for the selection process. Singer Kumi Koda announced that she has produced a line of yukatas, in collaboration with established kimono maker Nishizen Shoji. The project is a follow-up to the series of kimonos produced by Koda that began selling at the start of this year. Koda began working on the yukatas last November. 30 patterns in ten different varieties have been made, all with a general theme of "womanliness." (CM/Model) Model Jessica Michibata gets wet for new mineral water commercial
Japanese model Jessica Michibata is set to appear in a television commercial for the mineral water Evian, wearing water as clothing with the help of computer graphics. The commercial, which shows Michibata walking down streets, doing aerobics and dancing while clothed in water, will screen from May 7. In order to make the computerized images look realistic, about 2 tons of water was used in the filming of the commercial, and 1,260 hours were spent editing the footage. Michibata has appeared in the past as a model for magazine "Glamorous," and is known for modeling work alongside her two sisters.
