Ahhh, they're speaking Japanese, but the translations is Mandarin. 
Actually, the program is in Cantonese, no Mandarin was involved. Only Sawaketsu was speaking Japanese.  节目是用广东话说的呀.. aaaaah crap i cant believe i missed this
how come K understands the question when the journalist reads it in Cantonese!? 
He doesn't. Either instant interpretation is provided, or cheat cards are being used. Fact is, you never notice those translators working in between, esp. since there voices are ALWAYS omitted in the actual program, and hence your misperception.
